Rocket League Announces Remaining Changes to Game for 2018

With the Haunted Hallows Halloween event still going strong, Psyonix announced the remaining changes coming to Rocket League through the end of 2018 in a post on their website yesterday. This year has already brought exciting new changes to the game, most recently the addition of the Rocket Pass, Competitive Extra Modes and the Clubs features. Rocket Pass, introduced in September, has added a much-needed feature to the game: level-up rewards. The two tiers, free and premium, give players cosmetic items (and even decryptors and keys to unlock crates) every other level for the free track, and every level for the premium track.

The post yesterday reminded players that the first Rocket Pass will be coming to a close on November 26, so players have just over a month to reach level 70 and claim all available items. The next RocketPass will begin mid-December, with players back to square one, as well as once again requiring ten keys (roughly $9.99) to upgrade to the premium track.

Psyonix also touched upon the upcoming release of Rocket League in China. The company has partnered with Tencent, an internet conglomerate based in Shenzhen, China. Though no official release date has been announced as of yet, Psyonix claims the full release is “fast approaching.” Another hot topic mentioned in the post was the status of RocketID, the upcoming cross-platform party system for the game. While the original goal was to have RocketID up and running by the end of the year, the announcement revealed the decision to push the release to early 2019.

Psyonix stated that the announcement of Sony’s cross-platform functionality contributed to the delay. “We can now make additional changes to prepare RocketID for ALL platforms should we receive permission to do so! We’re working incredibly hard to ensure that it’s as intuitive, stable, and polished as possible, before releasing it to the world.” While PS4 players have been able to cross-play with PC players for a while now, players are excited for the opportunity for full cross-platform play as well as party functionality.

PlayStation players have a lot to be excited about with the announcements, but Xbox players should not feel left out. Psyonix stated that Enhanced Xbox One X support is coming as early as December of this year. This will include 4K at 60 frames-per-second as well as HDR support. December will also mark the return of the holiday event, Frosty Fest. This event will run very similarly to Haunted Hallows, where players will earn special currency in online matches, called Snowflakes, to be spent on limited time event items. Start and end dates for the event have yet to be announced. Rocket League players have a lot to look forward to for the rest of this year, and even bigger changes to come next year!
