Riot Games Is Allowing Third-Party Developers To Make League Of Legends Games

Fans of the online multiplayer battle arena game League Of Legends may be happy to hear that Riot Games is allowing third-party developers to expand upon the world of Runeterra through the development of new games. According to Polygon, the company is allowing third-party developers to develop single-player games that explore the lore of the League of Legends lore under the label Riot Forge. The games might not follow the same formula as League of Legends because the games will be “in different genres on various platforms” meaning that in theory, players could have an action-adventure game based in the world of League of Legends.

The Riot Forge website explains that “These games will be created and developed by our partner studios and published by Riot Forge. Each game we release will expand the League of Legends universe and allow players to experience League like never before.” This means that developers interested in publishing their League of Legends game through Riot Forge will be able to work with independent studios “passionate about working in the League of Legends universe.” Unfortunately, no games have been revealed as of yet, however, Riot Forge promises to reveal games once the games are further in development. There is also no information regarding which developers Riot Forge is working with as the site states that it is “too early to announce our amazing partners,” The site assures players that  “they’re already hard at work creating the incredible experiences for our players.”

Riot Games came under fire last year for allegedly violating the California Equal Pay Act. More recently, the company and the plaintiffs agreed to settle the case out of court with the plaintiffs and the approximately 1000 employees who identify as female receiving $10,000,000 as a part of the settlement. Riot Games also announced back in October that the company is ready to branch out from League Of Legends and develop games in new genres including a 2D-style fighting game called Project L. Developers hoping to expand the universe of League of Legends can do so right now by visiting the Riot Forge site and contacting company.
