Riot Games Confirms the Possibility of a Valorant Console Release

The official release of Valorant arrived to PC on June 2nd after being announced last year under the pseudonym “Project A“. The game has skyrocketed in popularity during its 2-month long beta period and even broke Twitch’s single-day viewership record with 34 million hours watched for their beta launch. Multiple competitive esports organizations have joined the hype, most recently 100 Thieves. Within this commotion are fans wondering if/when Valorant will make its way to current or next-generation consoles. Anna Donlon, Executive Producer of Valorant, spoke to Gamespot about the possibility of a console port for the game.

When asked if this was in the works, Donlon replied, “We are definitely prototyping that right now, but there’s a way to play this game and there’s a way to experience this game that we’re not entirely sure translates completely to console play.” Valorant is by all means a competitive game and the studio worries about perceived disadvantages that console play provides. Donlon calls it a “strong level of competitive integrity,” and insists that there won’t be a console version if this is compromised. She assures that this, of course, is not a no, and notes that members of the team are really striving to explore the game’s potential on other platforms. In terms of a timeline for something like this, Donlon says “…it definitely wasn’t the focus out of the gate. If we were to do it, it’ll definitely be delayed.”

As of now, Valorant is available exclusively on PC for Microsoft Windows. The game is completely free and is available on the official website, playvalorant.com. Players can check out the required specs here.
