Fans of SpeedRunners will be excited to learn that tinyBuild GAMES is working with Fair Play Labs to launch a sequel in the franchise. SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed uses the same gameplay formula as the first game, but promise to introduce new high-definition graphics and an improved netcode.
Originally, the sequel was set to launch this July and has since moved to release September 3rd. The later launch date is to give the developers more time to fine tune and polish the game further before release. They are also granting players the chance to participate in refining the game through a Community Playtest.
This means that the demo on Steam will be deactivated, which started yesterday July 30th. Players interested in participating in the Playtest can request access via Steam. Once the Playtest goes live, players will be notified, though no set date has been mentioned. The playtest is estimated to release sometime prior to the launch date.
For those unaware of the franchise, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed is a multiplayer platformer racing game. Lobbies can have up to 8 players and the goal is to stay in the lead by any means necessary. There is a ring of fire that shrinks as the race continues, furthering adding to the chaos and heat of the race.
It is essentially the Mario Kart of 2D platformers. There are items players can pick up and use against their opponents such as missiles, traps, freeze rays, and a grappling hook. The game is bound to be chaotic fun for players and their friends.
A release date trailer was posted yesterday on tinyBuild GAMES’ YouTube Channel. The video highlights the same chaotic fun with racers using abilities to slow their opponents down. However, the trailer highlights new multiplayer game mods, maps, and characters. Though characters from the first game will be returning in this sequel.
SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed will be launching simultaneously on Steam and for console on the same date, so mark September 3rd on your calendars. The publishers have also teased that there is more exciting news yet to come about the sequel.
