Respawn Pushes Back Plans for Titanfall to Focus on Apex

In a blog post published earlier this week, Respawn doubled down on their mission to maintain popular battle royale game, Apex Legends, for the long haul. Despite recent downtrends in viewership of streams of the game, Respawn is “100% committed to the long-term growth of Apex Legends, and supporting the millions playing every day.” While fans of the game may be delighted to hear that, it may come at the expense of another popular game in their catalog: Titanfall.

Drew McCoy, the author of the blog post and Executive Producer for Apex, said, “No resources from the Apex Legends team are being shifted to other titles in development here at the studio, nor are we pulling resources from the team working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.” Seems as though Respawn believes Fallen Order and Apex are the two money-makers at the moment but unfortunately will come at the expense of another Titanfall game, at least for now. “In order to fully support Apex Legends, we are pushing out plans for future Titanfall games.”

Even though another Titanfall may be a ways away, Respawn did detail the changes and plans coming for Apex, including fixing the server performance at the beginning of matches, polishing up the hitbox and audio issues experienced by some players, as well as the continued prevention of cheating in the game. Respawn also promises to be more upfront about the changes they are making to the game. “We need to provide more visibility into the future, and what we’re working on. That doesn’t mean we’re going to start telling folks everything they want to know when they want to know it, but you can expect more transparency on future updates and fewer surprise drops.”

As a start to the improved channels of communication, Respawn will be releasing details about Apex Season 2 at EA PLAY this June. “For Season 2 you can expect Battle Pass with more meaningful content, the introduction of a new Legend, the debut of a new weapon . . . and you didn’t expect Kings Canyon to stay the same forever, did you?” It would seem Apex is trending in the right direction, though Respawn can expect a healthy dose of salt from the Titanfall fanbase.
