It looks like Respawn Entertainment might be adding yet another title to their impressive catalogue, albeit from a familiar setting. According to a report from Dexerto, Respawn has posted some job listings for what is being dubbed the “Apex Universe FPS Incubation” and is currently looking for a Senior Environment Artist, Hard Surface Artist, Senior Skybox Artist, Senior Gameplay Engineer and Senior Engine Systems Engineer. The listings also state that the applicants will “build a brand new Respawn single-player adventure” which means that despite the obvious tentative name, this new project could be for anything. That being said, there’s a high probability that this is going to be an Apex Legends single-player title.
Despite the name of the project, there isn’t anything too concrete to go off of. However, the name itself is possibly the most obvious giveaway for an upcoming IP, especially since Apex Legends is arguably Respawn’s most popular IP at the moment. This may also be related to the report from last year where Respawn posted several jobs for an unannounced single-player title. Interestingly enough, it’s been just under a year since the last job listing post, and now they’ve added a whole new slew of them.
For the longtime Respawn fans however, there’s one IP they want to see return to the fold; Titanfall. Unfortunately, we already know Respawn’s stance on their oldest IP, in which they currently have no plans to revisit it due to several commitments to other projects. However, stranger things have occurred in the video game industry, and nothing seems to be truly set in stone for the time being. Apex Legends of course is one of the most popular free-to-play online titles in the market, which was firmly established when it was announced, and released all at the same time, taking the video game world by storm. Only time will tell when Respawn is ready to talk about this possible single-player entry, but when they are, hopefully, we’ll have some time to prepare for it, unlike the previous iteration.
