Respawn Announces They Will Shut Down Apex Legends Mobile

Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royal shooter game that was initially released back in 2019. It lets players choose their favorite legend and battle it out with various weapons and tech. Last year Electronic Arts published a mobile version of Apex Legends. The mobile version has the same elements as the console and PC counterparts, but it does have its own unique collectibles, cosmetics, and battle passes that differ from the original.  But players have a short amount of time to play the game. Fans received news today from Respawn stating they will no longer be continuing forward with the mobile version of the game.

While the details of the circumstances that led to this decision were briefly mentioned, Respawn had this message to share with fans on the Electronic Arts website.

“At Respawn, we aim to provide players with games that are consistently outstanding. Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game.”

While it appears that the game did have a strong start, it didn’t keep a consistent flow as its main game counterpart. And since the mobile game draws revenue from its in-game purchases, it would seem that Respawn decided to cut its losses. This has left many players upset since their in-game purchases will be erased and no refunds will be issued. While the news is saddening to fans, players can still enjoy Apex Legends Mobile until it shuts down on May 1st, 2023.
