Capcom used Summer Game Fest to announce Resident Evil Veronica, bringing the long-requested remake into view with a planned 2027 release window.
The trailer opens with Claire Redfield being greeted by an old woman in a Paris hotel. Claire is told that her brother is staying in one of the hotel’s rooms. Upon entering the messy room, the old woman leaves, and Claire takes in her surroundings. Then, after hearing a noise outside the door, Claire opens it and is grabbed by a masked man, who presses a knife against her throat.
The original, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, launched for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and continued Claire Redfield’s story after Resident Evil 2, following her search for Chris into another Umbrella outbreak. The game moves the series beyond Raccoon City, taking players through Rockfort Island before shifting toward an Antarctic facility tied to the company’s experiments. It was also a major technical step for the series, replacing the earlier games’ static pre-rendered backgrounds with real-time 3D environments and a camera that could move with the action. What’s interesting is that the remake seems to be in first-person, which is different from the original, although a first-person mode could be unlocked upon completing the game.
Capcom also confirmed that Resident Evil Veronica is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Built in the company’s RE ENGINE, the remake will return to Rockfort Island with updated gameplay and a more realistic visual approach. The new version appears to be aiming for a harsher, more immersive take on Claire’s escape, bringing the 2000 survival horror entry closer in line with Capcom’s recent remakes.
