UPDATE: Reports Say That Sony Will Unveil The PS Neo On September 7th

UPDATE 8/10 9:50:

According to Kotaku, Sony just sent out invitations to a special PlayStation Meeting set for the September 7th in New York. The event will take place at 3:00 at The PlayStation Theater.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Console Wars: First Blood Part Two is about to kick off. With the Nintendo eyeing a tentative September date as announcement day for the NX and Microsoft plans to release the Scorpio sometime in 2017. All that’s left is Sony’s mid-generation refresh.

In a recent report from Vice Gaming, it was made known that Sony plans to unveil the Neo on September 7th at an event in New York. Vice says that exactly what will be shown is still up in the air.  One of Vice’s anonymous sources says that the event will be a technical showcase, so while it’s possible that some new games will be shown off the event will probably only show off the tech. Dev kits will be sent out shortly after the event.

Vice’s article comes of off the heels of the French site Gameblog announcing the same thing. Vice reports that they were able to independently confirm that info itself.

Earlier reports say that the Neo will have an upgraded CPU, GPU, and RAM. Along with that, one of the biggest features of the new console is its ability to play games in 4K.

The jury is still out on whether or not mid-gen consoles are a good idea. Back when the rumors began, there were talks that the Neo could fracture the market with half of its users stuck with the old PS4 and the other with the Neo. That won’t be the case says Sony. Before E3 Sony’s Global CEO Andrew House finally confirmed the console’s existence and when the topic came up he said that the Neo and PS4 will “sit alongside and complement” each other and that both versions would be sold at the same time.
