Nintendo fans might want to hold onto their seats for this one. It turns out that Monolith Soft might be currently working on the next entry for the Xenoblade Chronicles. Even crazier is that according to sources from Fanbyte, the studio is apparently planning on officially announcing the title before the end of the year. According to the publication, their source also confirms that the title will be called Xenoblade Chronicles 3, essentially making this a full-fledged sequel. Lastly, their source also mentions that it’s “nearing its final stages of development.”
This whole thing started when Jenna Coleman, who voices Melia in Xenoblade Chronicles, did an interview on YouTube channel a couple of months ago, and accidentally mentioned that she “thinks they’re going to do another. Don’t know if I’m allowed to say that.” At the time, it didn’t really receive any attention. Now, thanks to Fanbyte’s report from their source, the community has been revisiting this interview and realized that Coleman may have slipped and accidentally revealed that the studio is in fact working on another entry.
The publication’s source states that the title was planned to be revealed earlier this year, but for an undisclosed reason was pushed back to later this year. The source also mentions that the project has been going through a bit of an arduous process mostly due to the worldwide effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Apparently, the main focus of the development right now is to have more characters, enemies, and NPC’s on-screen at once than ever before.
Should the title get an official reveal, we’d expect it to be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. The previous two entries, Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are both on Nintendo’s flagship console, with the former being an upgrade called Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Hopefully, we do see the project unveiled this year along with a release time frame, but for now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
