We’re slowly but surely making our way to the launch of Sony’s new tier-based subscription service. The revamped PS Plus is set to go live this June and it appears that lot of customers were looking to take advantage of a specific loophole. Sony will be allowing those who have both PS Plus and PS Now subscriptions will be upgraded to the top tier, PS Plus Premium, when the new service goes live with the length of their new service being equivalent to their current membership. Consumers then began to buy a plethora of memberships to both in order to “stack” the longevity. A new report from Eurogamer says that Sony has essentially stopped this dead in its tracks.
According to the post, customers have been reporting that they’re unable to redeem their just purchased PS Plus code, nor can they do so digitally. It was first brought up on Resetera before being reported on other various social sites. Due to the severity of the issue, many now believe that Sony has purposefully disabled the feature which is emphasized in the post from Resetera where they were told by Sony’s customer support that they have actually turned it off. “On this case right now you will be unable to add those codes to the account since we have disabled the option to redeem PS Plus codes.”
Considering that this was something that would allow users to have a lengthy time with the Premium tier, a lot of fans are pretty upset with Sony on this. This was also done when Microsoft introduced the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which lead to people purchasing a plethora of Xbox Live Gold codes to increase the length of the subscription duration. The only major difference is that this occurred when Microsoft had already implemented the new service whereas Sony has yet to launch it officially.
