Report: PlayStation Titles on Steam Were Raised Substantially in Other Countries

It looks like those who are looking to buy PlayStation titles on Steam are about pay a higher premium. Initially spotted by a user on Resetera, and sub sequentially reported by Video Game Chronicles, the brand has quietly raised the price on select titles on the PC platform for several countries including, Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Japan and South Korea. No specific reason was given as to why the company did this, but the increase was fairly high, with some regions seeing a massive percentage increase to the titles on Steam.

According to the post, each country was hit with varying degrees of price increases. Interestingly enough, the company’s own native Japan also saw a price hike for the titles on Steam with the change going from 4900-6490 Yen to 6490-7590 Yen. North America’s own Canada was also affected by this and saw an increase of $59.99-69.99 CAD to $64.99-79.99 CAD. However, the country hit with the highest price increase was Argentina, which saw it rise to 4199-5999 Pesos to 8499-9999 Pesos, a 67% increase for PlayStation titles on Steam.

For those wondering, the titles in question that saw these increases were Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Days Gone, God of War, Returnal, and Sackboy a Big Adventure. As we mentioned earlier, neither Sony, or anyone from the PlayStation brand made an official announcement of any sorts when raising these prices. As of this writing, they still have not made any comment on the increase, but considering the initial backlash from those affected, we wouldn’t be surprised if they do end up making an official statement. The brand has also mentioned in the past that they expect to see most if not all of their titles on the PC platform at some point, which begs the question of future pricing for those titles. Hopefully, Sony will have a more concrete answer for us in the foreseeable future.
