Back in 2022, PlayStation announced its plans to focus on live-service titles. Unfortunately, things haven’t been going the way that they may have thought, especially after the shutdown of Concord last year. There have been few hits since the plan was revealed such as Helldivers II but for the most part, things haven’t come to fruition the way PlayStation might’ve thought with many new live-service titles getting shuttered before they even reach one year out in the market. With that, PlayStation has canceled several live-service games in development including one based on Spider-Man. Now, Bloomberg reports that two more live-service games have been canceled.
BREAKING: PlayStation has canceled two more live-service games, from subsidiaries Bend and Bluepoint, Bloomberg has learned.
Fans have long wondered what Bluepoint has been working on for the last couple of years. I can report it was a live-service God of War game. www.bloomberg.com/news/article…

One of the live-service games was being developed by Bend Studio. The other was being developed by Bluepoint Games who many have been wondering what they were working on. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed that it was a God of War live-service game.
PlayStation fans have speculated for years about Bluepoint’s new projects since the well-received PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls (2020).
I can report that from 2020-2022 they were helping on God of War Ragnarok. Since then they’ve been on the live-service project that was canceled today. Now, unclear

A company spokesperson confirmed the cancellations and said they were canceled “following a recent review.”
“Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects,” the spokesperson said.
PlayStation did not say whether the cancellations will lead to layoffs but did say the studios will not close. A spokesperson for PlayStation tells Bloomberg the company is working with Bend and Bluepoint to determine their next projects

According to the report, neither studio will be closed. In a memo to staff, the company said “it’s working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine what are the next projects and plan to do everything we can to ensure there is minimal business impact.”
