Release Date and Trailer for Treachery in Beatdown City Episode 1

Treachery in Beatdown City is a “dark comedy-action street fighting thriller” developed by indie studio NuChallenger. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on the 31st of March via the eShop, Steam, or itch.io. The release date was shared on the game’s official Twitter page, coupled with the full trailer.

The trailer shows that US President “Blake Orama” was kidnapped by “Ninja Dragon Terrorists” and the city’s billionaire mayor refuses to take action. There’s obvious levity to it because I mean, “Blake Orama” is the beloved black president and the trailer song asserts that the player will save him at all costs! The story follows three unique fighters as they take on “an increasingly ridiculous cast of enemies” on their mission to save the president. It’s aptly called Beatdown City, since not only does everyone in the city fight, it’s encouraged in the commercial shown at the beginning of the trailer!

Episode one is set in East Fulton, a city with five maps. The game plays on city tropes, such as the struggling artist shoving mixtapes in your face for $5 donations, disorderly cyclists, and entitled joggers. Its Steam page advertises the player’s freedom to “fight how they want” to combat these urban terrorists. Playable characters include Lisa, the boxing and MMA expert, Brad, a pro-wrestler with a love of fire, and Jeet Kune Do and Capoeira fighter Bruce. The combat appears to be a turn-based system with customizable combos, grapples and “strikeagrapples.”
