It has been on the radar for a while now that Naughty Dog, the company behind Jak and Daxter and The Last of Us, has been working on a DLC for the latest entry their popular Uncharted series, Uncharted: A Thief’s End. The game came out last year for the PlayStation 4 and Naughty Dog have since been working on an expansion to the game, entitled Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Even though it was intended to be a short DLC for A Thief’s End, IGN explains that Naughty Dog’s head of communications, Arne Meyer, stated that The Lost Legacy will likely be over ten hours long, long enough to be its own game. He said,
Years ago, when we were asked if we were ever doing a single-player expansion for Uncharted we always said, ‘Well, we don’t have the self-discipline to do that.’ If we tried to do that we’d create a full game. There’s no way we could constrict and restrain ourselves, and that’s exactly what was happening here. When we were doing story pitches, we were coming up with a game that would be over ten hours long and so we suddenly realized everything we said was true and we couldn’t keep it short.
Today (April 11), we were given more information about The Lost Legacy. According to GameSpot, the game will be out on August 22 in North America and will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. The game will cost $40 and participating retailers will throw in a free digital copy of Jak and Daxter with pre-orders of The Lost Legacy. Digital pre-orders of The Lost Legacy from the PlayStation Store will include Jak and Daxter as well and will also include a Lost Legacy theme for the PS4.
The Lost Legacy will star the characters Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, while the series protagonist, Nathan Drake, will not appear in the game. GameSpot also reports that The Lost Legacy will likely be the last game in the Uncharted franchise. You can watch the trailer for the game below.
