Since its inception in 2009, Minecraft has remained as one of the most popular video games of all time, bringing players of all ages and backgrounds together to explore their creativity. Because the game centers itself around the concept of building things, Minecraft has no shortage of creative pieces players have made using blocks in all types of scale. Recently, one reddit user took his creativity to heights literally out of this world, in an attempt to recreate the Universe inside of Minecraft.
Reddit user and YouTuber ChrisDaCow decided upon himself to take up over a month of his time to attempt to recreate the universe inside of Minecraft. However, due to the enormous size of the universe in real life, ChrisDaCow knew that it would be physically impossible to recreate every star and galaxy in Minecraft. Instead, he went with the next best thing, re-creating specific parts of the universe to give a viewer the illusion of traveling through the emptiness of space. In the span of a month, ChrisDaCow managed to recreate our entire solar system, a cluster of galaxies, the famous space photograph “Pillars of Creation”, a giant black hole, and a representation of the universe in its entirety in the form of a ball of superclusters.
ChrisDaCow believes that the success of the project would not have been possible without Minecraft’s ability to let players paint with light, since the base game could not recreate space light. Although that feature was helpful, Chris still faced numerous challenges during the process of finishing the project. According to Chris, the most challenging project would be recreating the giant black hole because of the difficulty in replicating the bending of light.
With the sheer amount of capabilities that Minecraft gives its players, it continues to wow the gaming community time and time again with its sheer breadth of capabilities. The game’s assets continue to foster the creativity of its dedicated fanbase, and because of players like ChrisDaCow, the game will always find a place in the hearts of gamers.
