Rockstar Games made the massive announcement today that Red Dead Redemption and its zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare, are coming to modern devices. The follow-up story to the massively successful Red Dead Redemption 2 will now be available to play on Netflix, IOS, Android, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. The update, made in collaboration with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games, will also improve the previous experience from its base version.

According to the Rockstar Games website, the announcement is much more than a port. Players will have the ability to carry over save data from older consoles to the next generation. This new version will also come with free upgrades and enhancements, including the ability to run at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. The version available for the Nintendo Switch 2 also comes with features that support the console’s capabilities, including DLSS, HDR, and mouse controls. The upgrades will come free to any players who currently own the previous versions of the game, in addition to being available on GTA+ Games Library and the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog.

The boldest new move that the announcement included was bringing Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare to mobile devices and Netflix. In said announcement, Rockstar Games emphasizes their desire to bring the games to as many people as possible. In accordance with that goal, they have updated the game controls to work uniquely on mobile devices. Those with a Netflix subscription will be able to play the games as well, with all versions gaining access to content exclusive to the Game of the Year edition of Red Dead Redemption.

A game as acclaimed as Red Dead Redemption can sometimes feel daunting for players looking to get into a title or series.
