Rockstar Games announced that Red Dead Redemption II is officially coming to PC last week, and the internet went into an immediate frenzy. That reaction has tempered bit as we have been waiting for the company to let us know just what it will take to even run this massive title on our PC builds. The wait is now over as Rockstar has unveiled the necessary statistics for playing the game on PC. The most noticeable part of this is the Hard Disk Drive space requirement, all 150 GB of it.
Rockstar has already mentioned that the PC version will be getting some new content, but now they have officially outlined what it will be. 3 new Bounty Hunter Missions, 2 new Gang Hideouts, 2 new Treasure Maps, a new Mission, 4 new weapons for the Story Mode, 4 new horses (including some new variants), and 5 new Trinkets with different affects. This is on top of everything that the console iterations received last year, almost making this the definitive edition of the game to play.
Now it’s important to note that when the game launched the previous year on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the install size was considered to be enormous, sitting at 105 GB. Considering all of the updates and extra content that the PC version will be receiving, it’s no surprise to see such an increase in the space needed to hold it. Still, this is easily the largest amount of HDD space that a video game will demand for anyone who plans on installing it.
Besides that, the necessary numbers aren’t all that intimidating, as most modern gaming computers should be able to run it at a decent pace. However, it is recommended to double check every alleyway and avenue before making the purchase, as there will undoubtedly be a few kinks for Rockstar to work out before it’s considered stable. In addition, the company has stated that they will be releasing a new 60 FPS 4k trailer in the near future, which might imply that the game will be able to reach the desirable frame-rate and beyond.
There’s still a lot to take into account here, especially if your system is a little on the older side. If it doesn’t even come close to the Required section, then you’ll more than likely need to upgrade a few parts, or look for a new PC altogether. Either way, now we have a much better idea of what we’re dealing with. If you’re hurting for more space on the HDD then this will likely be a problematic situation, but it won’t end here. As more games become developed with advanced graphics, hardware, and higher resolution, the size needed for them will only increase over time. Time to invest in a few portable drives.
Red Dead Redemption II will launch for PC on November 5 through the Rockstar Games Launcher, and the Epic Games Store. It will release on the Google Stadia in the same month, and for Steam in December. The game is available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now.
