Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart State Of Play Showcases New Mechanics, Abilities, Weapons, And More

After sharing a new look at the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive, Insomniac Games has revealed new gameplay for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart with today’s State of Play. Similar to The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima State of Plays, this is a small look at what players can look forward to when the game releases on June 11. The gameplay footage showcased two demos, one with Ratchet and the other with Rivet, the new character being introduced in the game. With the gameplay, we got a new look at some of the new mechanics, abilities, and weapons that players will have access to in their arsenal. The State of Play also highlighted two indie games, Subnatica: Below Zero and Among Us which will make its way to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Rachet’s section of gameplay picks up right after he gets separated from Clank due to the evil Nefarious taking them into another dimension. As he makes his way through Nefarious City, he has to fight his way in an effort to reunite with Clank who he finds with Rivet, a mysterious new Lombax.

Rivet’s section of gameplay has her attempting to get to her friends with Clank before something bad happens to them on the alternate dimension Sargasso.

New mechanics for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart include traversal abilities such as the Phantom Dash and wall-running, plus the Rift Tether which can be used in both combat and traversal. With PlayStation 5 and DualSense wireless controller, weapons in Ratchet & Clank will feel even more visceral than ever because of the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The Burst Pistol has two firing modes. Pulling the trigger halfway fires single shots, pulling the trigger fully will unleash rapid-fire spread bullets. Players will feel each shot fire from the Pistol. The Enforcer is a shotgun that when the trigger is pulled halfway will fire a single barrel. Pulling the trigger fully will fire both barrels. The power of each shot will be felt through the controller. With the Topiary Sprinkler, players will feel resistance in the trigger when they are preparing to throw a grenade. When it is firing and captures and hold enemies with plant fertilizer, players will be able to feel when this has been done. When using the Shatterbomb, players will be able to feel how impactful each explosion is.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will also feature open areas to explore, dimensional Clank puzzles, glitch challenges, arena challenges, ariel combat, gold bolts to collect, and pocket dimensions that can be explored. The game will also have a photo mode and a number of accessibility features that will be revealed soon.
