Rare Updates Players on Sea Of Thieves and Skeleton AI

Pirate lovers everywhere have eagerly been awaiting Rare’s latest project Sea of Thieves, an open-world cooperative multiplayer adventure game that puts players and their friends in charge of their own pirate ship and allows them to explore an open world filled with treasure, monsters, and other pirates.

A couple of days ago, developers took to Youtube to talk about their first round of 2018 announcements. The primary topic of the video: skeletons, featured heavily in the game as one of the main types of enemies you will encounter on your seafaring adventures.

Rare is focused on making sure these enemies feel like “they have a history and they live there.” So a lot of work has gone into developing and crafting their intelligence and behaviors. Largely, they will have the same abilities that the player has.

To regain health, they can eat food. If they are particularly injured, they will run away from your pirate wrath. If you are sniping, they might not be able to locate you exactly, but they will be able to figure out your general direction. If you make too much noise or hit a rock while digging in the sand, the skeletons will hear you and head your way.

It looks like a lot has changed since Rare initially launched a development version of the game for testing in their Inside Program in 2016. Rare has been using the program to get early feedback from players on the future of the game.
