Laura Shigihara, the creator of the hit indie RPG Maker game Rakuen, has announced a new project she’s been working on with the help of animator Slamacow. Titled The Farmer in the Sky, it is a 3D animated series set in the world of Rakuen.
Rakuen is a highly charming adventure game with a name that is Japanese for ‘pleasure garden’. The game stars a hospitalized Boy and his Mom. One day, Boy asks Mom to escort him to the fantasy world in his favorite storybook so he can ask the Guardian of the Forest to grant him a wish. In order to get his wish, however, Boy must help out his fellow hospital patients by interacting with their alter-egos in the fantasy world. The game has an Overwhelmingly Positive score on Steam with 1,206 reviews, and it’s one of Laura Shigahara’s big breaks. Her first big break was composing the music for the hit tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies and voicing the Sunflower in the trailer/ending song.
Last Friday, Laura Shigahara posted an announcement on Steam about project she’s been working on in secret for the past six months. The project is The Farmer in the Sky, which again, is the 3D animated series that takes place in this fantasy world. Whether it will feature Boy and Mom are yet to be seen. Counting the post-animation teasers, the trailer clocks in at slightly over two minutes long, and the animation is done by animator Slamacow, who has primarily done Minecraft animations before this project. The trailer and all future episodes of The Farmer in the Sky have a dedicated Youtube channel, so subscribe there to see new episodes as they’re released.
Rakuen can be bought on Steam for $10 normally. However, the game is currently 40% off ($5.99) in celebration of the trailer’s release
