Fans of Rage and those looking forward to Rage 2 alike may be delighted to find that new gameplay footage has been revealed, courtesy of IGN. The video, which you can check out below, is just over 11 minutes long and highlights the utter insanity the game is sure to bring, not to mention a look at some interesting weapons, a few bosses, and vehicle gameplay.
The first weapon we are able to get a good look at is the Grav-Dart Launcher. Pumping enemies full of bullets with the gun will then allow it’s secondary fire to pull them towards another point of contact. The video’s suggestions include walls for additional damage on impact, straight up in the air to launch the enemy away, or even right into your fist; whatever gets the job done right? Another gun featured may seem a bit familiar, especially for the Doom and Quake II players out there. The BFG 9000 is a legendary plasma weapon that looks to do some massive damage. Firing a chargeable green orb, the gun seems akin to a nuclear warhead. Unfortunately, the video ends before we are able to witness the absolute carnage it is sure to have wrought.
The footage also introduces a few bosses, namely Dugg the Basher and Digg the Smasher. This is where the BFG 9000 comes into play. When traditional weapons can’t get the job done, it’s time to bring out the “Big, Uh, Freakin’ Gun,” to quote the Quake II player manual. The gun does go by a more explicit name as well, but you can figure that one out for yourself. It would seem the BFG 9000 was needed to take down Digg and Dugg, highlighting the strength of the bosses in the game.
Another standout from the footage was the maneuverability available to the player, both on foot and in vehicles. Right off the bat, we see the player’s car dashing side to side to both avoid enemy fire and create openings to destroy the convoy they were trailing. On foot, the options seem to open up more, allowing for dashes (even in the air) as well as massive speed boosts to get from point A to B in no time at all. Finally, amongst the bleak backdrop of the Rage 2 setting, flashes of neon colors make a welcome appearance as the player activates their abilities, especially Overdrive, coating the screen in a pink static.
