Today it was announced online by League of Legend developing titans, Riot Games, purchased Radiant Entertainment.
Radiant Entertainment, until recently, was the powerhouse behind such games as Stonehearth, and Rising Thunder–a highly anticipated game revolving around giant, fighting robots. What’s not to like, right? Announced last year, the game appears to be facing derailment in the face of shifting management.
Apparently, games currently under development with Radiant is looking at a lot of changes, as stated earlier by Radiant founders Tom and Tony Cannon:
First and foremost, Stonehearth will go on, full speed ahead. We’ll continue delivering Alphas at our current pace, with the aim of delivering the final game “when it’s ready.” We’ll continue keeping you up to date on our progress through things like our Twitch streams and Desktop Tuesday blog posts.
As for Rising Thunder, the team will start work on a new game that we’re incredibly excited about. We wish we could say more now, but rest assured you’ll hear more when the time is right. For now, we will be permanently closing Rising Thunder on March 18th. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Alpha!
Sadly it appears to be the end of the road for Rising Thunder and its fans. Players have until the 18th of this month to finish what they started in the game’s alpha. Pack up all their mixed emotions, close out tabs, and hit the road. Interestingly enough, Rising Thunder–a game so heavily embedded with “the core mechanics of a fighting game”–was influenced by other action oriented games such as Riot Games’ League of Legends.
Devs went on to thank all of their fans for support, and emphasized that the future has potential to remain bright:
…to everyone who has helped support us by playing Stonehearth and Rising Thunder, backing our Kickstarter, telling your friends, and giving us your feedback: Thank you for helping us make these games as good as they can be. You have been a consistent source of motivation and inspiration for us, and we look forward to continuing to talk and work with you in the future.
Perhaps the team at Radiant Entertainment found themselves a decent new niche?
