Netherealm Studio has given us a brand new glimpse of one of the upcoming fighters for Mortal Kombat 1. A long time favorite is returning, Quan Chi, and he’ll be making his way into the game later this month on December 21. He will also be released via early access on December 14 for those who purchased the Kombat Pack, a full week ahead of the official release. The studio released a trailer for the fighter, which includes some nice surprises.
As expected, Quan Chi uses his abilities to summon portals in order to attack his opponent. This includes using special combos to juggle the enemy into midair and get some serious damage out of it. Quan Chi can also enter portals to blindside his opponent, setting up another juggle or at the end of a combo. He can also fire his signature green flame skull, a move that he has been using since he became a playable fighter in 1998. He can also upgrade this into a giant purple flame skull to cause even more damage.
The trailer not only shoes off Quan Chi, but also teases two additional fighters. We get to see Khameleon in the gameplay video as a future Kameo fighter. Even better than that is at the end of the trailer when Quan Chi is about to fight Peacemaker, who is portrayed by John Cena, as well as hear him say a line. Peacemaker, along with the recently released Omni-Man, are all part of the Kombat Pack, which also includes Ermac, Homelander, and Takeda. Mortal Kombat 1 has been massive success for the studio this year, selling nearly three million copies since it launched just this past September, and has been nominated for Fighting Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023.
