Bethesda has officially announced that the next QuakeCon will in fact take place later this year from August 18-20 2022. The event will remain digital-only for the third straight year due to the ongoing worldwide effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, in the post, Bethesda also states that they are committed to bringing back the famous LAN party event to an in-person one by 2023. “An event of this size requires months of planning, and in this case, we had to make decisions when there was still too much uncertainty to commit to successfully executing an in-person QuakeCon.”
As with past events, QuakeCon 2022 will feature a livestreaming program, specific online meetups, some giveaways, and charity opportunities. It will also hold a virtual edition of the now-famous Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) LAN party. LAN, which stands for Local Area Network, is a longstanding tradition of QuakeCon, where attendees bring their own PCs and link them up in a specific local internet connection in order to play Quake multiplayer, something that the event has been employing since its inception more than 25 years ago.
Some of the confirmed titles for the lineup include Redfall, the open-world vampire shooter from Arkane Studios, and the much anticipated Starfield from Bethesda’s own game studio as well as Todd Howard. It’s also very possible that we’ll see something new from id Software, who are the originators of the QuakeCon event along with several IPs that inspired it. It was reported late last year that the studio was working on “long-running iconic action FPS” which could mean a new Doom title or even a brand new entry in the Quake franchise.
QuakeCon 2022 will take place from August 18-20 2022 and will be a digital event only.
