Quake II Remaster Out For Xbox And PC

The classic id Software shooter game known as Quake II is back and ready for the Xbox Series X/S and PC. The remastered version looks better than ever and now you and your friends can come together and play on just one screen in the co-op mode. In fact, you and seven other friends can come together and play on a single screen.

Originally released back in 1997, Quake II was the follow-up to its extremely successful predecessor Quake. The game was one of the first fully 3D first-person shooters ever to be released. The sequel saw a change in its narrative and setting, moving into space and introducing the deadly alien race known as the Strogg. The Strogg would also appear in later Quake titles like the forgettable Quake 4. While Quake II was overshadowed by the multiplayer sequel known as Quake III Arena, the game is still well noted for pushing ahead of its time with regard to its graphic capability and its revolutionary combat gameplay. The game also saw robust support for some of the earliest 3D graphic cards.

August 10 marked the beginning of Quakecon, the annual Iid-sponsored fan-focused event, featuring LAN parties, games, press conferences, and a lot more. It was during this event that the legendary Quake II was to be released and would be coming to Xbox and PC.

Even though the title has seen some blunders in the past, like the installment of the fourth Quake title, the remastered version of the second installment has a lot of features to bring back fans. For example, the now available package of the game will contain the original Quake II and the N64 version of the game. Additionally, the package will also contain the original expansions and all of the original multiplayer maps as well. Plus, there’s a new campaign mode developed by MachineGames who are responsible for titles like the modern Wolfenstein games. Quake II Remastered will also support a 16-player cross-play PvP, online co-op, gyro control on Switch and  PS4/PS5, widescreen displays, and finally, “restored” cut content including unreleased maps.

All in all, there’s a lot to be discovered in the new remastered version of Quake II. If you don’t own a Game Pass account, there’s always the option to play the game on your choice of platform for only $10 starting today!
