Krafton is bringing the Cinco de Mayo celebration to PUBG Mobile with a special Cinco de Mayo Deathmatch Event. Exclusively for those in the United States, Mexico and Canada regions, players can register through this form after joining the official PUBG Mobile Esports Discord channel. The event will take registrations until May 13th and once again between May 18th and 21st. The actual event will last 3 weeks from May 17th to June 24th.
According to the form, the prize pool is $6000 USD and $2,000 USD in gifts and giveaways. Though the event does not start anywhere near the holiday, the branding is focused on the day commemorating the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The format of the deathmatch will be direct eliminations. Open Qualifiers will run over 2 weeks between May 17th and 21st and May 24th to 28th. After this, the Qualifiers will be subdivided into 3 stages, with the best 64 squads qualifying for the second stage. Finally, the top 32 teams will move on to the final stage of qualifiers. The winning 16 teams from this round will move on to the second phase and receive $100 USD.
On June 4th and 5th, semi-finals will take place and only the 8 best teams from each day will make it to the ultimate stage. The Grand Finale will be held on June 11th and 12th, where on the first day only 8 teams will come out on top to battle the following day so that the top 2 can be determined. The winners will take home $1,500 USD while runners-up get $1,300 USD.
