PSVR Horror Game The Inpatient Has Been Delayed Until 2018

Supermassive Games, the developer behind Until Dawn, has announced a delay in the release of its next upcoming game. The Inpatient, a prequel of sorts set in the Until Dawn universe, was originally slated for release later this month; in a post to its blog, Supermassive Games confirmed that the psychological horror game will now be released in January of 2018.

Originally announced at this year’s E3, The Inpatient brings back a familiar setting: “Anyone familiar with Until Dawn will recognize the imposing sanatorium but this time you’ll see everything as it was during its 1950s heyday.” In Until Dawn, players were able to explore the sanatorium in its thoroughly decomposed and infested state, likely the result of whatever will happen in this new game.

The game’s story, however, introduces a storyline separate from the first game and a new cast of characters: “The Inpatient begins with you being questioned by Jefferson Bragg, the mysterious owner of the sanatorium. He claims he’s trying to help you, but should you believe him? This is the beginning of your disturbing journey, as you discover who you are and piece together why you are in the Blackwood Sanatorium…But in a world where you can barely trust your own memories… how can you truly trust anyone else?”

The Inpatient will launch on January 23rd, 2018 (US) and January 24th, 2018 (International) for PlayStation VR. You can check out The Inpatient’s story trailer below.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
