PS4 Version & New Game Mode Announced For The Long Dark

PC and Xbox One players have had access to The Long Dark  for quite some time now. But developer Hinterland announced earlier today that Playstation 4 players will soon be able to try the game out for themselves. The difficult and beautiful survival game will launch for Playstation 4 on August 1 along with a new narrative mode titled Winterminute that will allow players to play as two characters.

In a recent Playstation Blog Post, creative director Raphael Van Lierop explained that the story will be split into five different episodes, with the first two episodes scheduled to release on August 1.

Lierop stated that the developer took inspiration for the game from Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, a post apocalyptic novel that centers around the relationship between a father and son. In Wintermute, the two main characters Will Mackenzie and Astrid Greenwood crash land in Canada after a “geomagnetic disaster.”

During the first couple episodes the player will take control of Mackenzie however, Lierop stated that players will also be able to control Greenwood during later episodes. As for the playtime for the narrative Lierop added that each episode will be about five hours long.

Hinterland currently aims to release the other three episodes sometime later in 2017 and 2018, although Lierop has stated that it is possible that these plans could change in the future. Wintermute will launch on Xbox One and PC, as well as PS4 this August. Hinterland also announced earlier today that The Long Dark will be officially out of Early Access on August 1.
