A couple of months ago we reported that the new upgraded PS4, codenamed “Neo”, could be announced before the release of Sony’s PlayStation VR, set for sometime in October. Well French game distributor Innelec Multimedia says that the Neo could launch before October this year.
In a press release reported by French site Boursier, Innelec says that this year will be a good year for video games with the arrival of a new PS4 in the first part of the year and Nintendo’s NX in March 2017.
The current year should be marked for the video game world by the arrival, in the first half of our fiscal year, an evolution of the Sony PS4 PS4 console with the Neo 4K with new features and that the placing on the market in October 2016…The exercise should also see the launch of the new Nintendo console NX, in March 2017.
According to Videogamer, Innelec’s fiscal year runs from April 2016-March 2017, meaning that we could see the console sometime between now and September 2016.
In case you aren’t up to speed, the PS4K is Sony’s attempt at a mid-generation console refresh. And what a refresh it will be, early reports say that the console will have an upgraded GPU, CPU and RAM, putting the console more in line with PCs. With that added power the new PS4 will be able to play games in 4k and a host of other things. You can read more about what the Neo can do on a technical level here.
While it is just a rumor, it’s likely that the console will be announced before October, which works with another rumor, reported by Videogamer, that the Neo and NX could be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show this September.
