Project Winter, the Co-op Survival Betrayal Game, is Set to Come out of Early Access

There is something about asymmetrical multiplayer games that brings a whole new meaning to teamwork. Especially when there’s one enemy to combine forces against. We see this in games like Dead by Daylight, Evolve, and so on. But in those games, the enemy is known, clear as day. What happened when the enemy is right under our noses? That’s the premise of Other Ocean’s recent title, Project Winter.

In Project Winter, a group of 8 people are stuck in a vast snowy field in the wilderness. Their goal? Survive and get out. And using teamwork, players scavenge, build, cook, hunt, and entertain to hope that everyone can escape alive. Except, there are two bad apples in the bunch, conspiring with each other to kill everyone else. But this is one of your teammates, hiding away and sharpening blades to stab others in the back.

The game takes on something similar to that of Town of Salem, or old circle camping games like Mafia (or Werewolf, depending). Where it’s communication based and relied on both trust for you teammates, and deceit from the enemies. Though where Town of Salem only has whispers and the main chat (and ghost chat), Mafia and Werewolf had lying to your friend’s faces in real life. In Project Winter the game comes with unique chat features including proximity-chat based options, private voice channels, text chat, private text and emotes, to emulate real life a little more all in hopes of seeking out who the killers are. A game that relies on acting and being good a lying? Tricky, and easily brought down. But fun nonetheless.

Project Winter was originally announced back some time in 2018, though it didn’t quite get some traction until around January 2019 as it had started up an early access around that time. And since then, it’s been in early access, working and fixing. And now, with the new trailer out come a final release date.

Project Winter is set to hit version 1.0 and come out of early access on May 23, 2019. It will be available on PC for $19.99USD. Get a group of friends, or go in solo, try to survive and live, or survive and stab some people in the back.
