Fans of side-scrolling shooters looking to playtest upcoming games do not have to look far as Project Revenant released their playtesting trailer earlier this morning. Project Revenant is a pixel graphic game where the combat functions based off precision aiming. This means that players must aim their cursor directly over enemies in order for them to take damage.
It is a successor Revenant, which was a graduation project for ChungKang College of Cultural Industries. The developer’s MAYFLY have decided to remake the game with updated graphics and animations. The game allows players to build up their skills, equipping various ones that fit their playstyle and combat methods.
The environment ranges from sewers, underground clubs, to skyscrapers. Each stage will also include a new gimmick that players can use against waves of enemies, such as dropping a chandelier on them or igniting explosive barrels. Their surroundings is not only detailed, but can also work in the players favor.
Project Revenant‘s playtest trailer reveals the players main mission: eliminate the rebels to maintain order and peace. The gameplay showcases armored enemies along with bosses that players will encounter. One wielding a gold metal arm and catching the players off-guard with an attack from above. Other bosses include cyborg ninjas, giant robots, bounty hunters, and more for players to discover as they progress through the game.
Combat in the game will challenge players to carefully analyze their enemies. They will need to look out for their position and their attack patterns to land a hit. Spray and pray won’t work here as every encounter requires precision and a strategy.
Project Revenant is a single-player game and will have playtesting available via Steam on August 26th. There is no set release date yet, but this is one side-scroller that players may want to check out to test their skills.
