Prey’s 1.04 Update Causing Problems For Gameplay

Prey has recently released the 1.04 update which added Playstation 4 Pro support as well as other various improvements to the game. However despite the visual improvements that this update brings, there is also a few issues that it introduced as well. Digital Foundry has found that the game has experienced stuttering ever since the update was applied. They described the game as a “stuttering mess in motion.” due to the patch.

These bugs seem to only be affecting the Playstation 4 version as Digital Foundry stated that they have found no problems with the Xbox One version saying that the game “is as smooth and responsive on the Microsoft platform as it was at launch.” Although this new bug was introduced by the update the patch did correct the game’s responsiveness. However Digital Foundry still feels like the game’s frame pacing has truly been compromised. They expressed that they would rather not choose between input latency or poor frame rate.

“But still This is, without a doubt, the worst instance of irregular frame delivery we’ve encountered, giving the illusion of a much lower frame-rate.” Other bugs are said to be brought in by the patch as well including one that affects the field of view each time the player uses the inventory menu and gradually during gameplay. Also the problem doesn’t seem to correct itself until the next map loads for players. Although the game has had it’s share of bugs and gameplay issues since its launch in May it has received relatively good reviews. Prey is now available for on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC for $40.
