After an amazing night at the Video Game Awards, Arkane Studios was able to get in a small glimpse of their new version of Prey. While the core mechanics may be similar to its predecessor, the game itself will feature an all new story and more importantly, new aliens.
In a one on one conversation with Game Informer, Pete Hines, vice president of PR and marketing at Bethesda, he discussed the idea of how Prey came to be.
We felt like, at its core, we liked the basic idea of Prey and what it represented in terms of aliens and you being hunted and on the run, and we thought it was a cool name. If you remove for a moment the notion of any game called Prey previously, we just thought it was a cool name that evoked what this game was about.
When talking with Arkane about the subject, they stated that “[they] can do everything that [they] have planned and whatever [they] want and not be beholden to anything anyone has done – shipped or canceled – and just reimagine what Prey means going forward, then [they’re] totally on board for that.”
In the press release sent out earlier today, Arkane Studios released some of the backstory of how players will find themselves in the position they’ll be in. Players will awaken on board of Talos 1, a space station that orbits the moon in the year 2032. The main character will have been the key subject of an experiment designed to alter the course of human civilization forever. When things go wrong, the space station is taken over by hostile aliens who will hunt you before attempting to take your life. With only the tools and equipment on the station, players must scramble to stay alive and find out what happened to you.
With no exact time frame for the release of Prey, the only thing we know about the upcoming game is the fact that it will arrive on PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in the year 2017.
