Prey for the Gods Promises Xbox One and PS4 Version

Developers from No Matter Studios are working on an action-adventure game titled Prey for the Gods and they have turned to Kickstarter to help fund their development. According to MSPoweruser, in Prey for the Gods players assume the role of a hero thrown into a world with a mysterious never-ending winter, where they need to survive the blistering cold in isolation and nothing but the clothes on their back. Add in giants and ghostly wraiths, and tough, snowy terrain, along with the Gods that also share the world with you, and Prey for the Gods sounds like a game which is being heavily funded by a big name gaming studio.

But that’s far from the case; the small, independent gaming studio includes only three members. The trio behind No Matter Studios is Brian Parnell on art and design, Tim Wiese as technical artist and engineer, and Hugn-Chien Liao as the programmer. The three have worked together to developed mobile games, Facebook games, and even PlayStation VR games. However, due to their limited financial means, they went to Kickstarter earlier this month to help finance the game’s development and launch. The team also created a trailer to give gamers a taste of what they’d hope to develop and what they’d be funding – eventually playing as well. Below is the game’s trailer:

Posted on October 15, 2015, the trailer now has accumulated over 750,000 views on Youtube. Due to the overwhelming support from backers, the game’s developers have stated that their $300K goal on Kickstater will bring the game to PC and later to Xbox One and PS4. With 10 days to go, their Kickstater has raised $311,449 from 9,057 backers as I type this. With so many backers awaiting the release of the game, pressure to not only finish
the game but to meet the backers’ satisfaction is high.

Yet No Matter Studios hopes to not over reach with their goals and keep their reach realistic. Although they’ve been taking in feedback from backers from Kickstater, the developers aren’t just yet ready to share their demo with the gaming community.

We’d rather have a smaller group of people we know we’ll get honest feedback from. We know from experience that demos can do more harm than good.

According to Digitaltrends, the game will consist of five initial bosses, and they’ll all be scattered around the ice covered world (not in any particular linear order though). $300K was what No Matter Studios was asking for, but if they’re able to amount up to $600K with the 10 days that remain, Prey for the Gods developers will add extra bosses beyond the five that developers are promising, and they will also include additional weapons and armor. No Matter Studios hasn’t yet released all the details, but their goal is to essentially allow gamers the ability to survive and complete the game on their own terms. Brian Parnell, the game’s director, states that Prey for the Gods is about decisions, about making them and facing the consequences. There’s no exact release date yet, but according to their Kickstarter, their PC version is expected to be released in December 2017 and the console versions at a later date after that.
