Predator: Hunting Grounds, a game initially released four years ago, is on its way to being launched on other gaming platforms this year. It was announced on March 28th that Predator: Hunting Grounds will be launched sometime in late 2024, and Illfonic will be stepping in “as the new publisher” of the game.
Predator: Hunting Grounds is an FPS multiplayer game that was originally released in 2020 on PS4 and PC. The game’s PC version can be found via Steam and Epic Games Store. Initially, the game was published by Sony Entertainment and developed by Illfonic when it was first released four years ago. For Predator: Hunting Grounds‘ late 2024 release on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, Illfonic will be taking over the reins as publisher from Sony Entertainment and will be “collaborating with 20th Century Games to breathe more life into this fan-favorite”. Here is what Charles Brungardt, the CEO of Illfonic, said in the press release for the game:
“This game has a strong, enthusiastic player base and a vocal community that wants to see the game updated and supported,” remarked Charles Brungardt, CEO of IllFonic. “Now that IllFonic is publishing games, we knew we had to get Predator: Hunting Grounds back. We knew we needed to get back to the Chopper!”
The “immersive asymmetrical shooter” is situated “in remote areas worldwide”. In the game, players enter “the Predator Universe, giving fans the closest experience to being in the films, where the Predator stalks the most challenging prey”. In Predator: Hunting Grounds, the player will play as member of the “elite special forces team, The Fireteam, and complete paramilitary operations before the Predator finds” them. Players can also “play as the Predator and hunt the most worthy prey, choosing from their vast array of deadly alien tech to collect their trophies one by one”.
The Predator’s mission is clear: The Hunt. Study the warriors in the jungle and choose the best of the best to engage. Dispatch your targets and collect trophies to display as tokens of each hunt. Do not let your prey escape.
A specific date has not been announced for the game’s 2024 release, just that it will be in late 2024. For the press release, Illfonic gives little overview of what is to come for the game in 2024 heading into 2025. Here is a look at Predator: Hunting Grounds timeline for 2024/2025:
- April 2024: Patch 2.49 will cover the currently released PS4 and PC: Steam / Epic Predator: Hunting Grounds. The focus is on player movement, Fireteam weapon rework and balance, Predator weapon balance, and UX/playability improvements. More to come in the team’s patch notes.
- Late 2024 Release: Xbox Series X|S, PS5 Release: Predator is coming to Xbox. This release is focused on next-gen running on Unreal 4.27, Vivox, and Wwise, with a Standard Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition offered.
