Late last year, a report revealed that PlayStation is planning a new subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass. Nothing official about the service code-named “Spartacus” has been shared yet but early details suggest that the service is a blending of PlayStation’s other services, PS Plus and PlayStation Now and will offer three tiers to choose from. A new report today has outlined more specific details about the service.
According to the report, the tiers for “Spartacus” are called Essential, Extra, and Premium. The subscription for each will be monthly and starts at $10 but can go up to $16 depending on the tier that you choose.
The first tier, PS+ Essential costs $10 and will be what PS+ is now. Players will get monthly games that can be added to their library. PS+ Extra costs $13 per month and gives you the monthly games plus a game catalog full of hundreds of older, downloadable games, in other words, PS Now. The third tier, PS+ Premium gets you everything in PS+ Essential and PS+ Extra plus some extra incentives. Players will gain access to PS Now’s streaming capabilities, a library of “classic games” and a new “game trials” feature. Game trials will enable players to download and start playing the full versions of new PlayStation games similar to what EA Play does. The report says that everything from the names of the tiers to the pricing is subject to change.
Sony will be moving into a testing phase for Spartacus in the next few weeks. Details could be announced next month in March but it depends on whether Sony and PlayStation will be ready to roll out the new subscription service.
