In college people play drinking games in excess, and then they start to just drink, but you know what people also do? They play mobile games. Well, what if the two were put together. Say in a mobile game, run by a brewery. Well, that is exactly what is happening, and where else would that happen? But in Portland, Oregon, where even the most outlandish ideas seem feasible, or in other words, where dreams come true.
The Portland, Oregon based brewing company that is behind this game is called Great Notion Brewing, and they have released the third version of their mobile app this year. The game broadens delivery and shipping radii, as well as includes a mobile game. It is important to note that the first two versions of this app were just an app, like the Starbucks app or the McDonald’s app, but this third release includes a game.
What is the game you may ask? The game is called The Climb. The main character of the game is a lumberjack named Victoria Lane, who is already a fixture of the company, appearing on their cans of product since 2019. Additionally, players are trying to scale trees to earn points, and unlock rewards in the game.
The mobile game part of this app is only one feature of the app. It will still operate as it always has, allowing customers to place online orders, and accumulate points for future rewards. But it is possible that we are looking at a new age in mobile gaming. One where it is not dictated by big name companies, or sagas of games with highly publicized releases, but of people making games out of sense and practicality, for people to play and enjoy as they go through their everyday lives.
The Great Notion app is available for both iPhone and Android.
