Another prominent streamer in Michael “shroud” Grzesiek has made the move from Twitch to the Microsoft-owned Mixer for his streams. shroud announced the news earlier today on Twitter. “Same shroud. New home.” The announcement was accompanied by a short video of shroud getting ready to stream on the platform he will now call home, only to be interrupted momentarily by his girlfriend Hannah and an adorable kitten named Benji. shroud’s jump to the growing streaming site could mark the opening of the floodgates of notable streamers making the switch.
shroud, who had previously been streaming on Twitch, rose to prominence as professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player. Since his retirement from the professional CS:GO scene, shroud has become a well-known streamer of games like Call of Duty, Rainbow Six Siege, and battle royale games like Apex Legends, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Since beginning streaming through Twitch, he has garnered the third-highest follower count, according to SocialBlade, trailing only to Tfue and Ninja’s old account. However, that number has been steadily dropping since the announcement of the switch to Mixer.
The move to Mixer is undoubtedly in the shadow of one of the biggest Fortnite streamers, and arguably one of the biggest streamers in general, doing the same back in August. Tyler “Ninja” Blevins announced the move to Mixer in order to return to his streaming roots. shroud made the switch to connect with fans while doing something he enjoys. “The move to Mixer allows me to focus on what I love: gaming. It allows me to focus on livestreaming for my fans and directly engage with more interactivity and variety,” shroud told CNN Business.
