Upcoming Pokémon based fighter, Pokkén Tournament, will have support for all amiibos accessories – including non-Pokemon related amiibos – according to the Nintendo website.
This doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to have Yoshi face off against Mewtwo. Amiibo support for the game is described on Nintendo’s amiibo page as being “Compatible with all Amiibo accessories unlocking in-game items”. No details on what the unlockable in-game items may be as of yet or how significant their use.
First edition versions of Pokkén Tournament will come packaged with a special Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card. Tapping this card to the Wii U gamepad will unlock Shadow Mewtwo for immediate use in game.
Pokkén Tournament drops exclusively for the Wii U on March 18. More details on the growing amiibo support as well as the game’s roster should be expected soon.
