Tired of playing as a Pokémon Trainer all the time? Ever wanted to play as a Pokémon? Then Pokkén Tournament is the game for you! Pokkén Tournament is a new Pokémon fighting game, where you play as the Pokémon. The game is scheduled to be released on March 18th for Wii U at a price of $60. This game is being designed by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc., the producers of the great fighting game series, Tekken.
The developers of the game wanted to make the game feel more realistic. Masaaki Hoshino said that “With this game, one of the things I really wanted to do was represent the Pokémon in really realistic style.” You can not only tell the attention to detail on the textures of Pokémon, but also the attention to the realism of the animations. For those that are not that big into fighting games, do not fear because the developers made the game easy to play for everyone, so anyone can pick it up and enjoy it. Game developer, Katsuhiro Harada said that:
It’s a simple thing that surprised me the most, it’s a hidden element in the game. There are actually a few signature Tekken moves performed by the Pokémon in the game. And originally when I heard this idea [I thought] Tekken characters and Pokémon have totally different bone structures. I didn’t think they would fit at all.
But to Harada’s surprise, the Tekken moves fit the Pokémon really well.
There are many modes to the game. A single player, where you battle against a computer that has different difficulties to accommodate different gamers. A local where you can challenge your friends on the same Wii U. And online where you can fight competitively or casually. Or you can even hook up two Wii U’s locally with a LAN cable and play at 60 fps on separate TV’s. For more information check out the Pokkén Tournament website. And you can wait to see an exclusive sneak peak of the game on March 17th on Twitch.
For all fans of Pokémon and fighting games, this is a game for you.
