Last June, The Pokémon Company announced their first multiplayer online battle arena Pokémon UNITE. Since then, fans have been waiting for more information regarding the overall gameplay and mechanics of the game. It was announced earlier this year that regional betas would be available, and in March, Pokémon fans in Canada were given the unique opportunity to receive access to the closed beta for the game.
However, almost instantly, players who had been given access to the closed beta of the game have been posting content that breaks the terms and conditions of the beta. These videos have included gameplay footage, battle pass and items included, and in-game monetization with many of them being taken down within hours of being uploaded online.
Players will play on a team of five to catch pokémon, level up, evolve their Pokémon, and defeat the opposing team. Teams will have to work together and play strategically to earn more points than the other team. From some of the footage posted, the game begins with each player choosing a pokémon which starts at level 1. To level up and evolve, players can fight wild pokémon to get stronger. There will be options of in-game purchases to customize your characters and other items too. There are twenty pokemon for players to choose including some of franchise’s most iconic characters such as Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Gengar.
While the game does not have a release date yet, it will be available on Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS later this year. The game will be cross-platform allowing players from these platforms to play together. For more information be sure to check out The Pokémon Company website.
