Just this morning, a new trailer was released for the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. The new trailer unveiled a brand new Pokémon for Pokémon Sword. The new Pokémon is the fighting type Sirfetch’d, an evolution to the Kanto Pokémon Farfetch’d. This is the second Pokémon from an older generation to receive a new evolution specific to the Galar Region with the first one being the third evolution in the Zigzagoon line, Obstagoon.
The design for Sirfetch’d seems to be inspired by the figure of a knight. This can be seen not only in its name, but also in its usage of a leek as both a lance and a shield. This can be further supported by a description of Sirfetch’d from the Official Pokémon Website states that, “The Farfetch’d of the Galar region can evolve into Sirfetch’d after experiencing many battles. They are calm and collected, and they make a point of always battling fairly. They are so noble in battle that they are often chosen as a motif for paintings.” Sirfetch’d also features a signature move known as Meteor Assault, which lets Sirfetch’d run an opponent through with its lance for massive damage at the cost of stunning Sirfetch’d for one turn. The trailer also makes it clear that Sirfetch’d will be exclusive to Pokémon Sword only.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are bringing new life into many old Pokémon with the continuation of regional variants. Similar to the generation VII games, various Pokémon players have been familiar with in previous games will be getting a new look in the Galar Region. Previous trailers have revealed regional variants such as Galarian Weezing, as well as Galarian Zigzagoon and its evolution Galarian Linoone. Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be released on the Nintendo Switch on November 15th, priced at $59.99 each.
