Earlier in the weekend (11/20) we saw the launch of anticipated Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon for the Nintendo 3ds. Play as one out of 20 popular pocket monsters–like you did in your backyard as a kid (d0n’t lie, we all totally did, you’re among friends). Solve the mystery behind the unknown force turning your Pokemon brethren into stone. Enjoy a play style that combines roguelike mechanics and the RPG mechanics Pokemon is so famous for.
Not enough? Embark on your own adventure and explore the expanse of five continents, the depths of over 120 dungeons with randomly generated interiors, build and lead your own team, encounter all 720 known Pokemon (including Legendary and Mythical Pokemon!), befriend them and recruit them on your team! YES–all 720 Pokemon.
Right off the bat, you are treated to a fun personality quiz to help select which Pokemon best suits you (kind of like a Pokemon version of the Sorting Hat). The game also offers players the option to forgo the test results and pick their own Pokemon protagonist and tag-along sidekick.
PSMD also introduces the addition of brand new Connection Orb, a galactic Pokemon map that assigns your quests as well as allowing you to communicate with other Pokemon.
Just like all things too good to be true, Nintendo is offering a free PSMD inspired theme for the 3DS HOME Menu when you buy the game either online or in stores. Players who purchase their version of PSMD in stores before Dec 6th 2015 will receive the code to download their special Home screen inside the game case. Others who download PSMD online will be sent the code electronically. Code expires October 31, 2016.
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon can be bought in stores, in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS, the Nintendo official website, or Amazon for $39.99 USD. Happy exploring, Pokemon fans!
