Pokemon Go Will Soon Stop Support For Older iPhones

Usually, Pokemon Go updates bring exciting news and features to many fans of the game. The most recent update introduced an AR+ mode as well as adding more Gen 3 Pokemon to the game’s recent holiday event. But unfortunately, an upcoming update for Pokemon Go players may bring some of them a bit of bad news. Developer Niantic confirmed that new update will reportedly make the game unplayable for a few older iPhones.

The game will no longer be supported by devices that aren’t able to run the latest version of iOS. Niantic wrote on the official Pokemon Go website, “In an upcoming update to Pokemon Go, we will end support for Apple devices not capable of upgrading to iOS 11, such as iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models. This change is a result of improvements to Pokemon Go that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices.”

The devices that will be affected are are the iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad (4th generation), iPad (3rd generation), iPad Mini (1st generation) and the iPad 2. The game will drop support for these older devices starting on February 28, so any users that are currently playing on any of these Apple products have only about a month before they will be unable to access the game on their device. The developer stated, “After that date, Trainers using affected devices may no longer be able to access their Pokemon Go accounts from that device, or use their PokeCoins or other items in their Bags.”
