Pokémon GO is currently sitting pretty as one of the hottest apps out there right now. The game has only been out a week and according to Digital Vision it’s already more popular than Tinder and in report from Forbes it was said to have more daily active users than Twitter.
It appears that Nintendo hit the jackpot with this game as the Pokémon GO Plus peripheral is already sold-out at all major online retailers, according to IGN. Amazon, Gamestop, and Nintendo have all sold out of the device.
Normally, the peripheral costs $35 but some enterprising individuals have taken to selling their pre-orders for over double the device’s original asking price. If you are desperate enough you can go to eBay right now and bid on a Pokémon GO Plus for 100 bucks or more. The most expensive listing currently sits at $300.
What the device does is connect to your phone via Blutooth, allowing players to collect items from PokéStops and catch Pokémon all without turning on the app. How it works is that the Plus accessory will buzz when you are near a Pokémon and players will only have to press a button on its face to throw a Pokéball at it. It doesn’t offer a ton of functionality, but the game is still young and Niantic could add in new features as the game evolves.
This type of hype and shortages are typical of Nintendo products, remember the Wii and amiibos?
As of right now, Pokémon GO Plus doesn’t have a release date. It’s likely that Nintendo will make more and open up pre-orders again, so keep an eye out!
This is just one of the many stories starting with Pokémon GO, one person found dead body while hunting for those elusive Pocket Monsters. Others have even used the game to rob people. It’s hard out there for a Pokémon trainer.
