Along with other new March events for Pokemon Go, the mobile game has finally introduced Thundurus and other legendary Pokemon that allow players to boost their travel parties. To also help players prepare for the upcoming Pokemon Battle league season, Pokemon Go is also allowing players access to powerful legendaries such as Registeel and Cresselia in Raid Battles for limited time. Niantic has not announced just how long these legendaries will be around, but players will be able to encounter them starting March 10th, 2020 at 8 AM local time.
The first season of the Go Battle League will start at 1. PM PT/ 4 PM ET on March 13th. As it was with preseason Battle Leagues, players will need to walk 5 km to gain entry into the Go Battle Leagues. From there the format will increase every two weeks, beginning with the Great League. As players win battles, they will improve their rank (and earn rewards) and get the chance to earn rare encounters with Pokemon such as the aforementioned Thundurus and the limited edition Pikachu Libre. There are plenty more events lined up for Pokemon Go this month, including a “mysterious weekend” on March 20th, and “Psychic Spectacular” that next weekend (which makes psychic type Pokemon more plentiful). March’s Community Day will also have the psychic Pokemon Abra become more plentiful on March 15th.
Also, a new Team Rocket Special Research quest is available for players to take part in for the entire month of March. If they are able to defeat Giovanni, then they will have the chance to catch Shadow Entei. Lastly, a new batch of Field Research tasks is available where each time you achieve a Research Breakthrough this month, you will encounter the Generation 5 Pokemon Ferroseed, which will eventually evolve into the fan-favorite Pokemon Ferrothorm.
