Pokémon GO Announces Egg-Themed Spring Event

It was announced on the official Pokémon website that, starting today (April 13) and continuing through April 20, Pokémon GO will be having a springtime event based around the game’s Egg mechanic. The focus on Eggs, as well as the fact that the event occurs just before, during and after April 16, makes it seem likely that this event is meant to coincide with Easter, though no mention of the holiday is made in the announcement, likely to avoid accusations of any kind of religious affiliation.

During this event, “a greater variety of Pokémon can now be found in 2 km Eggs.” It is unclear if this means that Pokémon that don’t usually hatch from 2 km Eggs will now be able to or if it means that Pokémon that normally hatch from these Eggs, but have a low hatch rate, will have an increased hatch rate during this event. Perhaps it means that Pokémon previously unattainable through the Egg mechanic will now be hatchable from 2 km Eggs. Or maybe it means something else altogether.

Also during the event, players will be rewarded with more candy than usual when Eggs hatch and the amount of XP players get for any activity will be doubled. Lastly, the item Lucky Egg, which, when used, doubles the amount of XP players receive for thirty minutes, will be available from the game’s in-game shop for half as much as usual.

If hunting for Easter Eggs isn’t really your thing, but hatching Pokémon Eggs is, you have some extra incentive this week to get out and do so.
