We can all finally exhale. With Christmas now in the back seat, we can now enjoy the games that we were given by our families. Retail workers may have to deal with people returning their gifts, but I don’t think Amazon is worried too much about that. Amazon, the premier online shopping website, has released its most sold video games during the holidays; Pokémon Sun and Moon and Final Fantasy XV for the PS4 were the most sold games on its site.
The findings themselves weren’t incredibly explanatory. No sales figures were released, nor is the date range that Amazon used known, it was just confirmed in a press release that Pokémon Sun and Moon and Final Fantasy XV were the top three games sold. Considering that Pokémon Sun and Moon and Final Fantasy XV were released on November 18 and on November 29, respectively, it’s a safe assumption that the earliest the date range began would be in late November.
Pokémon Sun and Moon were successful in their own right. The games shattered Nintendo’s record for fastest-selling game in the Americas, selling 3.7 million units in under two weeks. The games were also the most pre-ordered games in Nintendo’s history.
Square Enix announced that they shipped 5 million copies of Final Fantasy XV nationwide, making it the fastest start in series history. It is unclear if all of the 5 million copies shipped were actually sold.
Call of Duty a perennial big seller didn’t make the list with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which is a surprise because it was the most sold game during the month of November.
The top selling movies were The Secret Life of Pets, Finding Dory and the complete Harry Potter collection. Across the site overall, Amazon products the Echo Dot, Fire TV stick, Fire tablet and Echo topped the list.
The entire list, including all of the other categories can be seen here.
