Pokémon Day Events Announced

It was announced on the official Pokémon website that there will be a number of events on and around February 27 in celebration of Pokémon Day. This is due to February 27 marking the anniversary of the first Pokémon games, Red and Blue, being released in Japan and thus birthing the entire Pokémon franchise.

In Pokémon GO, you will be able to find Pikachus wearing special hats commemorating the occasion. This event will go on from February 26 at 1:00PM PST to March 6 at 1:00PM PST. Any Pikachus you catch wearing the hat will keep the hat after the event has ended.

As of now, and continuing until March 5, you will be able to go to a GameStop and get a code for a bottle cap for Pokémon Sun and Moon. This bottle cap will reportedly allow the player to use Hyper Training to increase the stats of a single Pokémon.

On February 24, a Pikachu Yellow Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL will be made available. This is a limited-edition New 3DS XL and will thus only be available for a certain period of time (though the specific period of time is not specified). It will cost around $200, depending on the retailer, and will be available to purchase from GameStop and Best Buy. More information is available on Nintendo’s website.

There will also be promotions in the 3DS spin-off Pokémon Shuffle. What these promotions are is not specified, but players can see what and when they will be via the game’s in-game notifications.

Pokémon‘s Twitch page will be streaming various past tournaments all day on the 27th. This stream will include tournaments from Pokémon TCG, various main series Pokémon games and Pokkén Tournament.

There will also be several non-video game related events, such as new figures becoming available at Pokémon Center stores and various Pokémon movies streaming from Pokémon TV and other services. Click here for the full list of events for Pokémon Day.
